September is always a busy month for everyone here at Lulu. While there is still a lot of 2018 left, the last few months of the year always ratchet up the intensity for us as we prepare for the holidays. So, of course, we went to two conferences in September.
While it led to some long work hours to get caught up, we did learn a lot about from both events. Today, we’re going to review our travels!
IndieLAB – Cincinnati Ohio
September 28 & 29
Sponsored by Writer’s Digest, IndieLAB is a new event aimed at authors who are pursuing independent publishing.
What makes IndieLAB unique is the focus on a smaller, more intimate experience with industry experts. With approximately 100 attendees and only 10 vendors, the event was more personal than any I’ve attended in the past.
Thanks to the smaller venue and closer group of attendees, there was more opportunity to ask questions, have one-on-one conversations, and get to know authors better.
The speakers hosted sessions on writing, inspiration, ecommerce, and entrepreneurialism, among many other topics. Again, the smaller nature of this event brought a strong personal vibe and authors had ample time to ply experts with their questions.
VenturePOP – New Orleans, Louisiana
This year we double dipped and headed back to VenturePOP in New Orleans for the second time! This conference is where creative entrepreneurs go to learn about the latest and greatest ways to improve their businesses – and we couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of it!
Not only is the conference amazing, but the founders and attendees are, too! We were so excited to find out that our 2017 VenturePOP scholarship winner, Abby Brocato, was in attendance again this year!
Not only did we get to mix and mingle with old friends, but we made some new ones, too. It was wonderful to meet this year’s scholarship winner, Kerri Michael!
Meeting all the lovely folks at VenturePOP was incredible and hearing all of their ideas for how they can use self-publishing to grow their business was so inspiring and we can’t wait to see all of their ideas come to fruition.
Thanks again, VenturePOP! Until next year!
Where will we pop up next? Who knows?
For the foreseeable future, we’ll be right at home (so, North Carolina) preparing for the holiday shopping rush.
