Looking for some beautiful, artistic books to inspire or maybe as a gift (the holidays are right around the corner)? Look no further! Lulu’s featured authors this month include two incredible artists.
In today’s Staff Picks, we feature two books brilliantly created and laid out to highlight photography and illustration. Get ready to get inspired!
Our first artist today is Vek Neal. Based out of Atlanta, Neal is most well known for his Neon Portrait shots.
His most recent book, Vekking, grew out of a challenge Neal set for himself. Originally focused on drawing and painting, Neal shifted to photography and hasn’t looked back!
The book is built around lighting and different aspects of lighting.
Interestingly, Neal used strangers for all of his models–he went up to complete strangers and asked them to model for his photography.

Our second artist is the illustrator Aaron Maybin.
Even though Maybin grew up making art, starting before he could even speak, he found success out of college as a professional athlete.
But he needed to follow his passion and shifted his priorities to his art and activism, starting with his book Art Activism.
His most recent book, Colors of the City, is a meditation on the people and places that inspire him.
Check out our recent Facebook Live for a more in depth look at Aaron Maybin’s newest book:
