Lulu To Acquire Joe Pulizzi’s Creator Economy Expo Event and Creator Newsletter Business, The Tilt

Research Triangle, NC

Lulu, a pioneer and twenty-year veteran in the self-publishing space for authors and content creators, today announced the acquisition of the professional content creator event, Creator Economy Expo, also known as “CEX”, as well as The Tilt, the leading newsletter for content entrepreneurs. This acquisition further positions Lulu as the leading resource for authors and content creators who want to take control of their data and business models.

Joe Pulizzi launched The Tilt newsletter and the annual Creator Economy Expo in 2021 for content creators who want to build financially strong businesses with a content-first business model.

“At CEX and The Tilt, we believe that content creators need to control their data and customer lists to develop a creator business model that works. We found that Lulu believes the exact same thing,” says Pulizzi. “Together, Lulu and The Tilt will work to provide education and services where creators don’t have to rely on social media apps or large tech companies to survive.”

“Over the last few years, Lulu and The Tilt have formed a strong relationship and we’ve been a huge supporter of CEX and its creator base,” says Matt Briel, Lulu’s VP of Marketing. “The Tilt believes that books are central to a content creator business model. Lulu believes that authors need to understand the business model of a content entrepreneur. The synergy between our goals and efforts to date made this a no-brainer for us, and we’re looking forward to adding more value to the entrepreneurial journeys of content creators worldwide.”

As part of the acquisition, Lulu is excited to announce a new publishing imprint specifically designed for content entrepreneurs through The Tilt. The new imprint will provide newsletter creators, podcasters, YouTubers, and other content entrepreneurs with a hands-on service to publish their print books, ebooks, and audiobooks. The Creator Economy Expo, which attracted 350+ content creators from around the world in 2023, will remain in Cleveland, Ohio for 2024. The Tilt newsletter will continue to publish every Tuesday and Friday to over 25,000 content creators.

Exciting news! Congrats to the teams and look forward to seeing what this brings for the future of publishing. A fine example of exit strategy as per Joe’s advice in the last chapter of Content, Inc.
